Most people think getting adjusted is a new idea. This is far from the truth. In 1600 BC in both China and Egypt, written manuscripts describe how to do the adjustment. Further research has found descriptions of the chiropractic adjustment used in many ancient societies to relieve pain and to restore bodily function including Babylon, Syria, India, Tibet, Japan, the native American tribes and societies in South America as the Mayan, Aztec and the Incas. Convent Hippocrates’s school of medicine. There the students were taught that disease did not come from the wrath of angry gods but from the natural forces surrounding the body. Traditional Western medicine, however, traces its roots back to this line of thinking allowed mankind to understand it played a role in curing diseases and in maintaining good health. In the written text of Hippocrates “On the Nature of Man” he described the healthy body as one in balance. The writings focused on the healing powers of the body that were essential for returning the body to that state of health originally intended. The responsibility of the Hippocratic physician was to preserve bodily balance or to help the body to return to balance from accident or illness. Hippocrates directed his students to not focus on the disease itself but on assisting the body to return to health through exercise, diet, manipulation and rest allowing time for the body to heal itself. Each year more than 80 billion dollars is spent on medicine to relieve digestive disorders from heartburn to constipation, bloating and gas to irritable bowels. Our society is becoming more and more reliant on these medicines as our culture is expanding to include new types of foods and more ways to eat unhealthily. But how do we tide this rising epidemic? Science and research have shown that chiropractic care offers a powerful alternative way to solve this problem. The solution comes with looking at the root of the problem and addressing these issues rather than the temporary fix that most medicines provide. The nervous system runs through the spine and controls the digestive system. Misalignment in any area of the spine can lead to altered digestive function. A good chiropractor focuses on achieving whole body wellness which means all parts of the body and spine in alignment and functioning at optimal capacity. By adjusting these “subluxations” or spinal misalignments, a chiropractor realigns the altered regions and restores nerve supply to the previously damaged areas. This approach honors the body’s innate ability to heal and works to enhance organ function and quality of life. Several studies have demonstrated the power of chiropractic adjustments restoring optimal function in individuals with digestive disturbances. In a published case study, a young woman had been afflicted with IBS symptoms once or twice a week for 5 years. After one adjustment she noticed an easing of symptoms and within a short time all her digestive problems disappeared. When the report was published 2 years later she was still symptom free. When people think about chiropractors, they think about sore necks and aching backs, but a chiropractic visit can do so much more for you. A recent study published in the Chiropractic Journal of Australia showed that chiropractic adjustments can positively affect creative thinking. Creative thinking is a valuable asset in all areas of life. It is useful for problem solving, innovation, business solutions, art, and design to name a few. The ability to initiate new thoughts and ideas has solved nearly every problem mankind has ever faced. So how can chiropractic care improve such an important brain function? Lets look deeper at the 2010 study. They used “alternative uses tests” to measure creative abilities both pre and post adjustments. Common everyday items like a shoe, chair, or newspaper were introduced, and subjects were asked to list different ways they could be used. Once their lists were complete, the test subjects were given a chiropractic adjustment. They were then given another form of the same test. They were also assessed 2 to 8 days later to measure the lasting effects on their creative thinking. Six of the ten participants experienced a significant post-adjustment improvement in their performance on the alternative uses test. The follow up interviews showed an even stronger result. Seven of the ten individuals indicated they had new directions in a real world creative task. Six individuals claimed to have renewed energy towards a creative project they had already planned. With the profound implications that the results suggest, it seems that we should look more in-depth at the ability of chiropractic adjustments to improve creative thinking as well as physical pain issues. Dr. Jim at We Care Wellness is expertly trained in making adjustments to improve all areas of the body and mind.

Chiropractic is the largest natural healthcare field in the United States. It uses drug-less, painless, and non-surgical means to let the body heal itself. 99% of chiropractic patients said treatment was helpful with their problem, vs. 80% of medical patients Chiropractic patients were three times more satisfied with their care than patients of family practice physicians A two year study conducted by the Italian government followed 17,000 patients. The dramatic results showed that patients under chiropractic care had their hospitalization for back ailments reduced by 87.6% and work loss by 75.5% Prof. F. One half of all Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year. Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work. In fact, back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections. Experts estimate that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some point in their lives. Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic–meaning they are not caused by serious conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer. Back symptoms are the most common cause of disability for individuals under the age of 45. In only 2% of cases where people have back pain, is surgery necessary.
The science of chiropractic is based on the premise that good health depends, in part, on a normally functioning nervous system. Chiropractic principle emphasizes that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism and that body function is controlled and coordinated by the brain, spinal cord and the nerves that branch throughout the entire body. The chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and remove spinal and extra spinal dysfunction and nerve interference. This allows the body, in part, to return to its natural state of health and wellness. Hippocrates, upon which the Hippocratic Oath is based, taught his students the following. Helping a patient return to health required these things. (1) Fresh air each day, (2) exposure to sunlight, (3) daily exercise, (4) manipulation of the joints and then (5) leave the patient alone to self heal. During the great flu epidemic of 1918 research revealed the following death rate for flu victims.

Medical treatment: 1 in 15 died

Osteopathic treatment: 1 in died
Chiropractic treatment: 1 in 866 died

Analgesics show hearing loss in men when taken two times a week as reported in the American Journal of Medicine,Mar.2010;123(3):231-7.

Aspirin showed a 33% risk.
Nsaids showed a 61% risk.
Acetaminophen a 99% risk

Eighty percent of Americans experience one form of back pain or another during the course of their lives. More men over the age of 45 are disabled by back pain than any other condition. It is the third most common reason for surgeries. Because of this, people complaining of back pain cannot be easily diagnosed. This is because the spine is such an incredibly complex structure of bones, muscles, nerves, joints, tendons, and ligaments. Injury or disease affecting any one or more of these structures can often trigger an episode of pain. Lower back pain is often caused by a muscle strain. The erector spinae, or large paired muscles in the lower back that help keep your spine erect, can become inflamed and spasm. In more serious cases, the pain may be caused by a degenerative condition, such as arthritis, disc disease, or disc herniation. A degenerative disc condition can sometimes cause a chain reaction of other events in your spine. When a disc is not in its proper place, or is malformed from disease or some other condition, it can allow additional undue pressure on other healthy structures, such as neighboring discs, nerves, muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons. Rest, ice or heat therapy, and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine, such as aspirin, are often the first course of treatment for mild lower back pain. This allows your muscles to return to their normal position and begin to heal. Because the thoracic spine is the sturdiest part of the spine, it is less prone to injury. That said, upper back pain, while less common than lower back pain, is often caused by irritation of the muscles or a problem with a joint. Other less common causes of upper back pain include herniated or degenerative discs. However, rest for a sore back should be kept to no more than two weeks; otherwise, the muscles in the lower back begin to atrophy and can become significantly weakened, leaving you open to further undue pain and injury.
